Joint actions for prevention and reduction of the consequences of disasters in the municipalities of Sandanski and Radovish

The objective of the project is to improve local sustainable environmental management in the sphere of ​​prevention and mitigation of natural and man-caused disasters with a cross-border dimension and impact on the territory of Municipality of Sandanski and Southeastern planning region by means of broad public awareness inclused young people, the consequences of climate change and risks such as erosion, floods, storms and drought, etc., exchange of best practices, experience and knowledge implementation of the different mitigation measures.
The main activities of the project planned the implementation of a communication plan for informing the local comunities through the preparation and dissemination of a Guide on "A collection of good practices for combating the climate change consequences in communities", conducting a seminar on climate change and "green activities", and "Roundtable discussions on mitigation of climate change consequences", exchange of best practice to tackle the problems. The project also includes infrastructure measures related to the significant reduction of the flood risks in the municipalities of Sandanski and Radovis, by strengthening the banks and slopes of the "Sandanska Bistritsa" river, Lilyanovo and "Sushitsa" river, Radovish, in identified problem areas.
The results of the project will benefit the administrations of the Municipality of Sandanski and the Municipality of Radovish, educational institutions from both municipalities, NGOs working in the field of "environmental protection and natural disaster prevention", from the realization of the infrastructure measures will benefit directly the local residents of the village of Lilyanovo (233 people), Sandanski (28 058 people) and Radovish (16 223 people).
