Applying of flood protection measures in the municipalities of Konce and Strumyani

The joint challenge for PP's is associated with serious floods on their territories. In the municipality of Konce, the river Dedinskaya comes out of its riverbed in the case of severe storms accompanied by heavy rain, wind and occasionally hail and thunderstorms. Also, Tsaparevska River due to the heavy rainfall and the water level of the river and the formed islands, the right bank of the river exports and adversely affects the supporting wall on the main road E-79. This is causing danger of flooding of residential buildings and properties along the river in the regulation of the settlement. Tsaparevska River represents a serious threat and its situation is similar to the situation that Konce is facing with Dedinska River. Strategy chosen is related to the most suitable natural flood risk management approaches available in the specific situations.
The following results was be achieved as a result of the project: 1 intervention for improving disaster management and risk prevention (Regulation of Dedinska river in Konce), 1 intervention for adaptation and mitigation of climate change consequences (Increasing the hydraulic conductivity of the Tsaparevska River with geocells and green measures); 1 joint mechanism for disaster management and risk prevention and for promotion of climate change awareness (Joint plan); 8 institutions involved in initiative (Joint seminar) related to risk prevention and management - 6 municipalities and 2 District administrations.; 84 participants in trainings and campaigns in the field of risk prevention (Awareness-raising campaign and Joint seminar); 8687ppl benefiting from flood protection measures (citizens of municipalities of Konce and Strumyani).
