Project summary: | The aim of the project was to improve waste management, prevent pollution in the cross-border area, increase knowledge related to the negative impact of improper waste collection and the consequences for the environment and man. The project presented an integrated approach in the field of education and aroused public interest and action to eliminate illegal dump sites, increase prevention and prevent nature pollution. Various tools have been developed (joint training programme WasteEDU, EduBook “Lifecycle of waste”, software for mapping illegal landfills and contaminated areas, web portal), which were used in the learning process in children's primary education, and to promote various capacity building and training initiatives (joint green schools and camps) and related events (discussion forums and conferences). Equipment for separate disposal and collection of waste and bins for waste selection were installed in selected 12 Bulgarian and 12 Macedonian schools. The target groups involved in the project were students from primary schools, non-governmental organizations, industry associations and other organizations, supporting activities related to environmental protection and other youth activities, small and medium enterprises working in the field of waste management, regional and local authorities. They were provided with various tools to raise awareness and promote the direct participation of young people in campaigns, related to environmental protection, waste reduction and the benefits of recycling and proper management.
