Green building for common green future - GREEN

The project has created better conditions for sustainable energy planning in the cross-border region, by implementing measures to achieve high energy efficiency of public buildings, by improving the awareness of the population and stakeholders about the benefits of energy efficiency measures, by improving the capacity of public administration with regard to climate change management, by promoting energy efficiency as a mean of achieving sustainable development and improving the quality of life in the cross-border region. Project activities included: capacity building for climate change; conducting a campaign to raise awareness of the general public; increasing the capacity to build green infrastructure; realization of construction-repairs works for increase of the energy efficiency of the administrative buildings of Kochani Municipality and of Blagoevgrad District Administration; conducting thematic workshops and campaign tour; development of a Regional energy strategy. The project envisages a long-term positive effect on the environment in the cross-border region and the improvement of the quality of life, including air quality. With the implementation of the planned measures to increase the energy efficiency of public buildings, the annual costs for electricity and heating fuel decreased by approximately 3%. The achievements of the project will be used in the formation and implementation of sustainable sectoral policies aimed at environmental protection, in future joint sustainable strategic planning in broad partnership among the teams of project partners, local authorities, universities and NGOs, as well as in the implementation of specific measures and future sustainable energy projects in the region.
